Automated Collection Program Details

  • The garbage cart has a black lid, and the recycling cart has a gray lid, on your weekly collection day carts should be placed by the curb (on or off the street), no more than 3 feet from the curb or road edge. Placement of carts will vary by residence. Place carts at least 3 feet apart, with the open side of the lid facing the street and the handle facing your residence.
  • Trash & Recycling carts must be out by 6:00 am.
  • Recycling will be collected every other week.
  • You can co-mingle all your recycling items in the cart, nothing needs to be separate.
  • You can search for your collection day online, or get text alerts or automated phone call to remind you of your collection day. Click here for details.
  • Ensure the carts is not blocked by cars or mailboxes. Be sure you provide room for mail trucks to deliver mail.
  • Garbage and recycling that is not placed in the carts will not be picked up. Garbage must not be overflowing from the cart and the lid must be substantially closed or it won’t be emptied by the truck.
  • Carts other than those provided by the City of Beloit will NOT be emptied.
  • Extra trash carts are available for an additional monthly charge that will be added to your utility bill.
  • If you move, please leave the carts behind. Carts are the property of the City of Beloit and must remain at the property or address to which they are assigned. Do not write house numbers or other markings on the carts.
  • Department of Public Works will be responsible for repairs to carts. Residents are responsible for taking good care of them.
  • Please keep them clean and properly store them on the side or back of your residence, or in your garage. Do not store them in the front of your residence.

Other Changes to Solid Waste Collection

  • Trash & Recycle carts must be out for collection by 6:00 am.
  • Bulky items & appliances must be prepaid and prescheduled for curbside pickup, fees remain the same. Click to learn more.
